Creative Writing

We have a simple creative writing exercise for you to try. Before you start, please consider

  • Finding a quiet space and allow yourself a minimum of 20 minutes to complete the exercise

  • Find a pen and paper or the notes application on your phone/laptop/tablet to write your thoughts down.

  • You can keep the the things you write down to read again later or you can dispose of them without reading

  • If you would like to share the things you write down then please submit on the forms or social media links provided

  • You can use these prompts as many times as you'd like and you may find them helpful and you can create new prompts every time

  • If this activity brings up feelings that aren't temporary and cause you discomfort, speak with your GP at your earliest convenience about what mental health support may be available.

  • To get started please use the two prompts to create a short story

  • You may want to write around your own experiences with the prompts as a way of practising mindfulness.

  • Alternatively, you may want to write in complete fiction as a way of practising creativity.

  • Practice is encouraged as frequently as you see appropriate and you can create new prompts every time

  • Allow yourself a minimum of 20 minutes to see what you're able to write. Sometimes it takes a little while for the ideas to flow
